Case Study: BHSCT

Trusted backup power across three hospitals

Data Centre install for Northern Ireland hospital trusts

The project

BSO – Hospital Trusts backup power for the Data Centres housed in Belfast City Hospital/ Belfast Mater Hospital/ Royal Victoria Hospital.

The background

The critical nature of the day-to-day running of the hospitals requires reliable and trusted UPS systems. The Trust issued the tender requirement to ensure backup power for each data centre and server room in the Northern Ireland Hospitals.

The solution

Following comprehensive site surveys and several meetings with the hospitals’ estates operations teams and the electrical sub-contractors, we designed the most appropriate and economical solutions for each hospital. This included two Schnieder Electric 120 kVA systems for each data centre in the Royal Victoria Hospital and two 120 kVA for the data centre in the Belfast City Hospital, plus two 250Amp (STS) Static Transfers Switches. For the Mater Hospital, we supplied three 30kVa UPS to ensure backup for the ICU and operating theatres. Ongoing service support for a range of UPS systems ensures the Trusts have reliable backup power.

The result

The Schneider Electric Galaxy series was chosen as the system to install in all hospital sites. Our experienced Field Service Engineers installed and commissioned each UPS to the required OEM standard and ensured the safe handover, including on-site training to the hospital estate management team. Ongoing service support to the Hospitals was carried out by our team of OEM trained engineers. Our timely maintenance schedule, fully automated with our sophisticated CRM software, significantly reduces costs for the Trusts.
