Case Study: BSO Service Support
Ongoing multi site service support – critical to effective healthcare delivery
Multi Site service support for Northern Ireland’s Hospital Trusts delivers critical peace of mind for the delivery of effective healthcare.
The project
BSO tender requirement for ongoing service support for all Hospitals Trusts in Northern Ireland – 5 year contract.
The background
The 5 health Trusts in NI have a wide variety of IT / electrical systems e.g emergency lighting housed across all of the sites. The data centres, and server rooms provide the IT infrastructure to the entire health system. These systems are protected by various models of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and Central Battery Systems (CBS). Continu won the tender in 2010 to install several large backup power systems for the data centres serving the BHSCT. Backup power is not simply about power failures but about continuous filtering of unstable electricity from the grid. ‘Cleaning’ the supply is critical to sensitive IT equipment, particularly in healthcare environments. In 2011 Continu secured the five year maintenance contract for the Belfast HSCT. This involved preventive and emergency maintenance to various backup systems across all sites. Since 2013 Continu delivered backup services to all other Trusts in NI Services included designing, installing and ongoing maintenance including battery testing and monitoring. In February 2017 Continu were awarded the 4 year contract through PaLs (BSO) framework agreement for all of Trusts in the new amalgamated agreement. This has enabled Continu to roll out existing maintenance services with greater efficiency, improved communication with our Trust contacts and proven economical advantages.
The solution
Continu provide tailored economic solutions delivered by a team of fully OEM trained and dedicated industry experts. Thanks to our partnerships with global leaders such as APC- Schneider Electric and Riello, Continu has access to a wealth of resources, but it is the company’s ability to remain nimble and respond quickly to the demanding environment of emergency back-up power which ensures the Trusts systems are ‘Always On’ and has been instrumental to the success of the project.
The result
Successes include consistently meeting and exceeding the expected outcomes on site, including providing the Trusts with detailed service reports, exceeded response times for telephone calls and on-site attendance and exceeding administration KPI’s including reporting and invoicing evidenced by ongoing customer feedback and securing the contract over a period of many years.
